TC Food Justice is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Minneapolis who seeks to improve food insecure individuals' access to fresh, nutritious food. Since March 2016 they have been working with co-ops, grocery stores, and farmers markets to re-distribute their unsalable foods to local hunger relief organizations. They focus on vegetables, fruits, and nutrient rich breads because hunger relief organizations often find it challenging to consistently provide fresh food options for their clients.
In the 2018 season, 11 NEFM vendors donated a total of 3,361.4 pounds of farm fresh produce to TC Food Justice. The produce was delivered to hunger relief organizations serving neighbors in Minneapolis. In three seasons of partnership together we've diverted a total of 10,158.5 pounds of vegetables and bread from being discarded. Most of this donated extra food has gone to support the Brian Coyle Community Center Food Shelf in the Cedar Riverside neighborhood.
“It has been a challenge to find volunteers to collect pounds of vegetables on a Saturday morning and bring them to food shelves. This is why we were overjoyed to meet TC Food Justice, who is able to fulfill these goals! The volunteers and staff are great to work with, and we look forward to many more years of partnership.” - Sarah Knoss, Northeast Farmers Market Manager
