We’re gearing up for another great market season!

Hello friends and neighbors!

Spring greetings from the Northeast Minneapolis Farmers Market! This year is our 16th year in the community, making ours the longest running community-based farmers market in Minneapolis. Highlights of last season include:

  • Ranked by The Daily Meal as number 43 of the 101 best farmers markets in the nation
  • Partnership with Rainbow Trees to protect the shade trees on our lot from Emerald Ash Borer
  • Hosting organic activist Atina Diffley for a reading from her book “Turn Here Sweet Corn”
  • Spotlighted by Minnesota Monthly magazine as one of the Top 5 markets in the Twin Cities
  • Awarded a Business Recycling Grant from Hennepin County to improve our recycling and composting
  • Diversion of 92% of our waste from landfills and incineration

2015 is shaping up to be another exciting year. Market Manager Sarah Knoss is planning another big year for us. We’ve welcomed four new board members, Kaylie Burns Gahagan and Katie Gemades. Nancy Hovanes and Chris Linde were re- elected to another two-year term. Brian Thielke is working with us again to oversee our EBT services and he’s also volunteering to head up our Zero-Waste services initiatives, including a tent dedicated to composting and recycling services.

Once again, we’ll celebrate the bounty of the season with the Harvest Gala and Corn & Brat Feed. We’ve partnered with East Side Neighborhood Services to host the Pancake Breakfast in April. And we’re kicking off the season with our third Foodie Four Mile, a “fun run” to benefit the Northeast Farmers Market and The Food Group (formerly Emergency Food Network) program Harvest for the Hungry that buys CSA shares and distributes fresh, local food to people in need.

Our efforts to bring fresh, exciting food experiences to Northeast and offer a unique weekend gathering place wouldn’t be possible without your support. We offer children’s programming, live music, food demos, and outreach for non-profits. We’re asking that you help us achieve these goals by sponsoring NEFM for the 2015 season. Your financial contribution will make all the difference as we pack a year’s worth of food, friends, and fun into 22 Saturday mornings.

Beyond supporting a community asset, sponsoring the Northeast Farmers Market is one of the best values around for promoting your business. The enclosed sponsorship form describes the options and benefits available to you. Please take a moment to consider what you can do to be a market sponsor. You can either mail in the form or give me a call; I’d be happy to stop by and pick up a sponsorship check from you! Please respond by April 15, 2015 so your business name can appear on our sponsor boards.

Northeast Minneapolis Farmers Market Mission

The Northeast Minneapolis Farmers Market provides a safe, accessible and friendly environment for the community to conduct commerce and encourage a socialization alternative. The market promotes the sale of locally grown and produced fresh foods, unique gifts and unusual services otherwise neglected by the mainstream businesses. Thanks for a great season!

Well, friends and fans, we did it again! 2014 marked the Northeast Farmers Market’s fifteenth year. We brought hardworking midwestern farmers, local business owners, food trucks, aspiring artists, massage therapists, musicians, chefs, community organizers, families, and foodies together for twenty two amazing Saturday mornings.

And you, dear sponsors, vendors, volunteers, staff and friends of the market have helped make every single one of those markets happen. Without your ongoing support the last pop-up tent would have folded long ago.

Thanks for a great season and we look forward to seeing you next year!

3rd Annual Harvest Gala!

NEFM_Harvest Gala
In a celebration of the strength and bounty of the local food movement, the Northeast Minneapolis Farmers Market is excited to announce the third annual Harvest Gala. Proceeds from the event will be used to fund the activities and mission of the Northeast Minneapolis Farmers Market.

The NEFM Harvest Gala features an innovative format that pairs farmers market vendors and local chefs. Chefs and farmers team up to create tasty appetizers using ingredients sourced from the Northeast Farmers Market.

This year, expect eats by Chowgirls Killer Catering, Sen Yai Sen Lek Thai Cuisine, the Modern Café, The Mill Northeast, Red Stag Supperclub and Cranky’s Ice Cream, just to name a few. At the bar, try beers from the Nordeast Brewers Alliance, fine wines, and a specialty cocktail crafted with 2 Gingers Irish whiskey and fresh seasonal juices.

Live entertainment will be provided by Adam Frank on steel drum, Bluegrass music by Cedar and Stone, and bellydancing by Giza Sangria. A silent auction will feature arts, crafts, certificates and services donated by local artisans, restaurants, businesses and individuals. We’re off to a great start with donations from Brasa, Alma, Mendhe Moon bodyart, Eastside Food Co-op, Kowalski’s, Lotus Life, Nancy Hovanes Basketry, Sarah Knoss Fine Art, Language Central, Chowgirls Killerl Catering and Pangea Organics.

Enjoy hula hoop tricks by Twistin Vixens, a hoop troupe from St. Cloud, MN. They perform, teach hooping classes and make their own hoops. All are invited to join them in their hoop dance routine!

We’re also having a “Garden Stroll”! Buy a ticket, take a stroll and the winner picks their prize basket. It’s as easy as picking a winter squash at the farmers market!

Big thank you to Michael Sharp RE/MAX Results for donating wine for this fun event!

Hope to see you all there!

Attention Restaurant Alma fans!

Exciting news! The Northeast Farmers Market was selected to be the recipient of their AUGUST donation program!

In January 2014 they began a monthly initiative to support local community partners and organizations working towards eliminating hunger, increasing food awareness and promoting sustainable agriculture by donating from each tasting menu purchase. Their goal is to increase awareness of the missions, work and activities of these important organizations.

It’s a great way to help the community and eat good food all while supporting your neighborhood farmers market! Stop by in August for a bite and know your purchase is going towards a good cause.
